Dated 19th December, 1936.

Received 6.10.a.n. 19th December.

32 No. 235.

Your telegram No. 126 It is now estimated that there will be little or no deficit on the present year and that on Basis of recent revenue returns deficit on next year's printed budget may be reduced to round about dollars (HK) 2,750,000.

I propose therefore introducing Fill in the Legislative Council 30th December fixing 1/31 exchange limit on local payments of sterling salaries and substituting 2 per cent 4 per cent 6 per cent 8 per cent and 10 per ccut for percentages in Section 2 (2) and 2 per cent 4 per cent 7 per cent and 9 per 53707, cent for percentages in Section 3 (3) of Ordinance No. 17 of

that. Bill will provide/these percentage cuts operate for the First half year and mey thereafter be continued reduced or abandoned by resolution of the Legislative Council. This levy if continued whole year would reduce deficit by approximately dollars (HK) 375,000. Please telegraph approval.
